Andru Donalds is a musician and vocalist with a previous solo career, who is now working in collaboration with the Enigma project as lead vocalist. Donalds had a hit single in America in 1995 with "Mishale", which hit #38 on the Billboard Hot 100. Andru Donalds was born in Jamaica. His musical style ranges from Pop, Rock’n’Roll, to Reggae and Ballads. His influences include The Beatles, Prince, Bob Marley, Queen, Michael Jackson & Black Uhuru.
Donalds claims: “My father informed as a professor of Theology and Psychology to the Princeton University (New Jersey), in Atlanta, London and New York. The Campus was my playground, I was exposed to the most diverse humans and cultures, which affected my musical development. Additionally I got classical music training as a child and sang in the boy‘s choir. Naturally my parents would have preferred me to pursue an academic career, but I was always the rebel of the family and I knew that this is not my way of life.” Meeting Eric Foster White, debut album and follow-up Directly after school 18 years old Andru travelled to England, Holland and New York, in order to develop his musical qualities as singer and songwriter. Meantime he became acquainted with the producer and songwriter Eric Foster White, who had his first hits with stars such as Whitney Houston or Regina Bell. Together they produced the debut album “Andru Donalds”. The two singles “Mishale” and “Save Me Now” became a worldwide success. The second album “Damned, If I Don’t” was published two years later in 1997.
Donalds: „We did not want to deliver a poor copy of “Mishale”, but show our advancement, and the pressure of the public was very large”. The song “Somebody’s Baby” was also selected for the original soundtrack for Matt Damon’s Oscar-winning movie “Good Will Hunting”. Meeting Michael Cretu, albums three and four In April 1998 Andru Donalds received a call from producer and songwriter Michael Cretu, who wanted to engage Andru for the Enigma project. The collaboration proved to be very fruitful. In the coming years they not only worked on Enigma songs but also wrote and produced two solo albums for Donalds. His 3rd album “Snowin’ Under My Skin” included 2 singles: “ALL OUT OF LOVE”, a cover version of the song by Air Supply achieving international platinum status, and “Simple Obsession”. “Let’s Talk About It”, his forth album, featured the single “One Night Lover”. Singer of “Enigma“ From 1999 until today Andru has been one of the lead singers in ENIGMA, Michael Cretu’s successful music project, which sold over 50 million records worldwide, conferred more than 100 platinum and gold awards and took over 50 #1 chart positions. He also co-wrote and performed “Je T’aime Till My Dying Day” and “Distorted Love”. The Best Of… Five years after his last solo album, Donalds released a best of album in 2006. It featured his greatest hits, as well as 5 brand-new songs of which “Dreamer” and “Let The Stars Fall Down” were released as singles. Collaborations: OST “Barefoot”, E. Vlasova, Sandra In 2005 Andru co-produced and performed the song “And I Feel” for the soundtrack of the German blockbuster “Barefoot” / “Barfuß”, staring and directed by Till Schweiger. In 2005 he cooperated with the Ukrainian singer Evgenia Vlasova. The songs “Limbo” & “Wind Of Hope” gained high airplay at Slavic FM-stations. Donalds also wrote a song for Sandra, the wife of Enigma producer Michael Cretu: “The Way I Am”, the lead single from Sandra's The Art of Love album, out in 2007. “My vision is just hopefully giving my creative best at every given moment, as I’m always exploring! My main thing is to give the people enjoyment and something to touch their heart and soul. I’ve never been the one to stick to one thing just because I need a hit record, or I would have sold out and done anything just to get on radio and TV. I prefer to suffer and do good music!”
