Bio
For Jett Pace, Colyn Cameron, and Malcolm Dow, music has been an essential part of life for as long as they can remember. It began in a childhood that Jett, Colyn and Malcolm all shared, growing up surrounded by music in an alternative education that supported the creative capacities of each student. As young as 8 years old they had begun learning instruments such as cello, violin, and piano and doing lots of singing. Their Musical voices were found as young as their friendships between each other!
They do believe these early interactions with stringed instruments and with singing gave them the first important foundations for their relationship now with Music, how powerful it is, and how to create it in a way that moves others. As the years went by, they all winded in and out of each others lives, never for a moment stopping their development as musicians. Throughout High School, new instruments were learned, bands were formed and disassembled, and they remained strong friends. Ivory Sky however, had not been incepted.
At the beginning of 2010, after taking individual paths of different sorts for a couple years, they all found themselves in Vancouver again, playing lots of music together, and with a new maturity about themselves. Since then it has been a non-stop Jam! They have played shows all over Vancouver and BC, they have a debut album entitled ‘Heartbeats’, and they are just getting busier.
The inspiration for Ivory Sky has originated from almost all genres of music, each lending an aspect of beauty and creative power to the sound Ivory Sky has: acoustic, raw, intimate, and high-energy. This debut album surely conveys a dynamic sound that has been gathered from years of their individual and collective musical paths. “Its something about the acoustic nature of the music we love and play now that we feel is intimate and that can communicate more directly to a crowd with the emotions and feelings that we have fused into it. What we play hits a more direct chord in ones heart, as it depicts what is in our hearts clearer and with greater power. When there is an agreed intention and style to with which a band can collaborate and carry out between each other, the sound can have a more direct focus and those that listen can hear in clarity the story that is being told and the feelings that are being conveyed through the music.”
