In their former guise as Murry The Hump, The Keys recorded 3 sessions for John Peel, signed to Too Pure, were lauded by the NME for their ‘glorious jangle-pop’, counted Joe Strummer, Keith Allen and Damien Hirst among their biggest fans and were the “ best new band in Britain” according to Alex James and Daman Albarn.
The Keys, now firmly re-established under their new name, are a mighty fine beat combo from Cardiff made up of five players. They have a fine pedigree on the local scene and well beyond, having supported Love legend Arthur Lee, and newer acts like Sleepy Sun and the Noisettes. The band have several Peel sessions under their belt including a Christmas acoustic session in the legend’s house, and more recently plays on Jonathan Ross’ Radio 2 show, Gideon Coe on 6Music and BBC Wales. Last year's ‘Le Mans EP’ proved that their angular, faux-psychedelia sounded more accomplished than ever, and deviated interestingly from the Murry template. This was quickly followed by the Christmas EP, and a diverse set of tracks lead by 'Queuing Up For Christmas Time' - a delightfully unassuming slice of Beatles-esque pop, a foot tapping, sleigh bell shaking, jaunt through the festive holiday period.
